FAQs
Does gel polish ruin my nails?
Gel polish itself will not damage your nails. In nearly all cases, weak, fragile, or “paper-thin” nails come from improper application or incorrect removal—not the product. Certain factors such as medication, health conditions, or hormonal changes may also affect nail strength and overall nail health.
Electric files should only ever be used on top of product (such as gel or acrylic) and only by a trained professional. They should never be used directly on the natural nail. Your natural nail plate only needs a gentle, light buff to ensure proper adhesion of the product.
With proper technique and care, gel polish is completely safe for your nails.
What are Gel Extensions?
Gel extensions are a lightweight, flexible way to add instant length and shape to your natural nails. Made from a durable gel material, they are applied directly onto the natural nail using builder gel, creating a strong, seamless bond without the need for harsh glues. Gel extensions feel natural, look sleek, and offer long-lasting wear with minimal bulk. Perfect for anyone wanting added length, a polished finish, and a comfortable, low-maintenance enhancement.
What is the difference between shellac and gel?
There’s no real difference—Shellac is gel. Shellac is simply a brand name (created by CND) that became popular when gel polish first started gaining traction. Because it was one of the first well-known gel systems, many people still use the word “Shellac” to describe any gel polish.
So whether you say Shellac or gel, you’re talking about the same type of product.
What is BIAB?
BIAB (Builder In A Bottle) is a thicker, stronger alternative to a standard gel base, designed to add durability and support to your natural nails. It applies like gel, cures like gel, and is removed like gel—the key difference is its thicker consistency. This extra thickness provides strength to the nail plate and improves adhesion, helping your gel polish last longer and reducing the chance of chipping or lifting.
Perfect for anyone wanting healthier, stronger nails with long-lasting results.
My nails keep breaking and product just comes off them, what can you do?
There are several ways to help promote stronger, healthier nails. Using BIAB can add strength and support while your nails grow, helping prevent breakage and lifting. However, the only way to fully repair damaged nails is to let the natural nail grow out completely.
Having a good product on your nails while they grow won’t affect the new nail growth—it just protects and strengthens the existing nail. Daily care is also key: using a quality cuticle oil and hand cream will nourish your nails and support healthy, strong growth over time.
SNS lasts so much longer on my nails then gel, why is this?
Most SNS systems use a combination of acrylic powder and a strong adhesive—essentially super glue (ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate, 85%-100%)—applied to the natural nail before dipping into the colored powder. This is why SNS nails are extremely long-lasting, but it’s also why they’re not the gentlest option for your natural nails. Despite being marketed as “nail-friendly,” the strong adhesive can weaken the natural nail over time.
